Golden State Bonsai Federation: Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt

Golden State Bonsai Federation (GSBF) maintains three bonsai collections in California that are open to the public. Their mission is to educate and inspire people about the ancient art of bonsai. Their park at Lake Merritt has recently suffered a series of robberies in which they lost several valuable trees so they determined that they needed to upgrade their security to prevent further losses. In 2024, Bently Foundation awarded a grant of $65,000 to GSBF to help the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt install security lights, cameras, and enhance the fencing around their collection. We hope this combination of upgrades will help ensure these beautiful specimens remain where they can be enjoyed by all who visit in the future.
